Medical Plan Claims Administrator Change

Anthem logo

Effective January 1, 2025, BSSP will be returning to Anthem Blue Cross for medical claims administration – services provided through AmeriBen will cease December 31, 2024.

There will be no change to your BSSP+SISC medical providers and benefits.

Anthem will be responsible for the administration of your medical plan benefits, including claims payments, benefit inquiries, ID cards, and more beginning January 1, 2025.

This change does not impact members enrolled in the CompanionCare Medicare Supplement Plan.

Here are some frequently asked questions to help guide you through the transition:

My AmeriBen portal shows my coverage is ending December 31, 2024. Is my coverage really terminated?

No! Your AmeriBen ID number beginning with "B4K" terminates December 31, 2024, but your coverage under Anthem with your new ID number beginning with "SIF" is effective January 1, 2025. There is no break in coverage!

Will I receive a new ID card?

Yes! Your new BSSP+SISC ID cards will arrive via mail in late November to early December.

Present your ID card to your doctors for medical and prescription services on or after January 1, 2025. You will receive a new Anthem ID card for yourself and your enrolled spouse, if applicable.  After December 15th, you may contact Anthem at 800-825-5541 to request additional ID cards, if needed.

Are my benefits going to change?

No! There will be no change to your medical plan benefits (deductibles, copays, coinsurance, plan provisions, etc.) nor the Anthem network of providers because of this change. You can continue using the same doctors and facilities.

Is my prescription drug coverage going to change?

No! BSSP+SISC will continue to use Navitus Health Solutions as our pharmacy benefit administrator. This means you have access to the same pharmacies and prescription drugs.

IMPORTANT: You will need to update your Costco mail order account with your new ID and group number for prescriptions effective January 1, 2025. For retail pharmacies, including Costco, please verbally tell the technician you have new billing information and provide your new ID card.

I am having a procedure in early January; how do I get an authorization?

Providers can call Anthem Provider Services at 800-274-7767 to request prior authorization starting the second week of December. Anthem Member Services will be available to support you as of November 18, 2024.

Do I have to update my coordination of benefits with Anthem?

Yes…if you have other coverage outside of BSSP. Coordination of benefits information will not transfer from AmeriBen to Anthem. You can update your coordination by calling Member Services at 800-825-5541 or by using the Sydney app.

If you are double covered with BSSP, your coordination of benefits will be updated automatically with Anthem.

Authorizations for Physical Medicine (PT, OT, Chiropractic Services) and Advanced Imaging (CTs, MRIs, etc.)

For physical medicine services, providers will work with American Specialty Health (ASH). Starting with your sixth visit, providers are responsible for obtaining medical necessity reviews through ASH.

For advanced imaging services, providers will obtain prior authorization from Carelon Medical Benefits Management
